Are you wondering: How to get motivated to exercise? Well, if you’re waiting to get motivated to exercise it may not happen. You don’t need to wait to “feel” like exercising to do it.
Action and what you feel about an action are two separate things. Any time you’re waiting for a feeling to inspire you to do something, you’re wasting valuable time. Feelings come and go. This is true even when it comes to things we love to do.
Always ask yourself: What would I like to achieve here? In other words, what outcome are you committed to?
If you live inside the world of your “feelings” – which, is what waiting for how to get motivated to exercise is – you are greatly limiting your potential.
Consider this example:
A man who is a casual runner decides he’d like to win a marathon, that it’s something that would inspire him if he could achieve it. In order to train, he has to run five days a week.
Every morning he wakes up at 5am, drags himself out of bed, and curses his existence. While he laces up his shoes he thinks about how he’d love to go back to bed. But he runs anyways.
Months later he competes. He wins the marathon. He gets his moment. And in the moment he is more powerful than he’s ever been before. He understands what it’s like to desire a goal he thought was unattainable and show himself what he’s made of. This was after months of not feeling like running most mornings.
Now here’s the other thing he’s trained himself to do: His brain and his body are much better at getting into action faster than they used to be because he doesn’t wait to “feel like it”. This will translate to greater success in all areas of his life.
Bottom line: Take your focus of your feelings and get in action. And, in most cases, the feelings of awesomeness will follow!
Now, if you haven’t been exercising and want to encourage yourself to be more excited about getting back into it there are three ways that may help:
How to get motivated to exercise
Method #1: Get really clear on what you desire. Close your eyes, imagine you have the body and health of your dreams, imagine what your life would be like. Would you feel incredible, sexy, free in your body?
Really conjuring up those feelings of awesomeness can have you spring into action.
Method #2: Make exercise fun by crossing your workouts with something you love. For example, I hated running until I started listening to audio books when I run. Since I love to learn and never have enough time to read, running has now become my favorite time. And as a result, I’ve never been fitter.
Method #3: Focus on incremental progress. The biggest mistake people make is trying to do way too much. If you haven’t been exercising, start small. Go for a walk today. Tomorrow do the same. Do this for a week. Next week add in two days of a simple 20 minute weight training routine etc.
Acknowledge the small progress you’re making. Don’t rush the process. Consistent ritual action is the key to success.
Get into action today, it doesn’t have to be big. Could even be to buy yourself some workout gear to wear that makes you feel good. You can do it!
